Volk Accountant vs QuickBooks

QuickBooks is the best-known accounting program in the world. There is no Cyprus edition of it — and that is the decisive point.

Details from the providers’ public pages, checked on 20 September 2026

Volk Accountant and QuickBooks compared

QuickBooks is used worldwide but has no edition for Cyprus. A company here uses the international edition, and that edition tracks VAT rather than filing it: at filing time QuickBooks, by its own description, prepares a statement to assist you with completing the return. Intuit builds submission only into localised editions — the UK edition advertises submission to HMRC in every plan, while the international one names no authority at all. On top of that, Cyprus is not among the 22 countries for which QuickBooks has prefilled tax rates. Volk Accountant produces the Cyprus VAT-4 return and the VIES statement from your own books, both included from 29 euros a month.

On receipt recognition, bank reconciliation and multi-currency, QuickBooks is equal or stronger. The difference sits in the first five rows: the VAT return, the VIES statement and the Cyprus VAT rates.

What sets Volk Accountant and QuickBooks apart?

A global program and a Cyprus one. Three differences carry the decision.

Filing

Producing rather than preparing

Volk Accountant produces the Cyprus VAT-4 return and the VIES statement from your own books. The international edition of QuickBooks calls this area “GST & VAT Tracking” and, at filing time, prepares a statement to assist you — submission to an authority is something Intuit builds only into localised editions such as the UK one.

Tax rates

Cyprus is missing from the list

QuickBooks names 22 countries with prefilled tax rates, from Argentina to Venezuela. Cyprus is not among them. With Volk Accountant the Cyprus rates and reverse charge are the starting state rather than a setup task.

Price

A euro figure against an exchange rate

Volk Accountant costs €29, €49 or €79 a month, stated on the pricing page. The international QuickBooks page shows no fixed amounts: they are loaded by location through an exchange-rate service.

Volk Accountant is the better choice on two counts. First, if your obligations sit in Cyprus and VAT-4 and VIES should come out of the software. Second, if you already have an accountant — with us they get a portal laid out like Tax For All on every plan. QuickBooks has the edge if you work beyond Cyprus, need stock control and project reporting, or want a program every accountant in the world already knows.

Why there is no Cyprus edition

Intuit builds tax filing country by country. Where it pays off there is an edition — otherwise not.

QuickBooks has localised editions for Australia, Canada, Singapore, Ireland, South Africa and the United Kingdom, among others. There, submission is explicitly part of the offer: the UK pricing page lists “Manage and submit VAT to HMRC” in every plan.

There is no such edition for Cyprus. A company here lands on the international edition, which describes its tax feature as tracking: it calculates VAT on invoices and expenses, shows what is owed on a dashboard, and at filing time produces a statement to assist with completing the return.

Where QuickBooks does more than we do

A comparison page that finds nothing good in the competitor is advertising. These are documented advantages, checked 20 September 2026.

  • Stock control with purchase orders from the Plus plan, plus sales orders. We do not offer it.
  • Project profitability and class or location tracking — up to forty locations on Plus, unlimited on Advanced.
  • Up to twenty-five users with custom roles and permissions, plus a custom report builder and data sync with Excel.
  • Connections to hundreds of programs, and an ecosystem practically every accountant in the world knows.
  • The accountant does not count as a user. Their access comes on top, in every plan.
  • Thirty days of trial against our fourteen.
Questions

QuickBooks and Volk Accountant: common questions

Which accounting software is better for Cyprus: QuickBooks or Volk Accountant?

For a company based in Cyprus, the fit argues for Volk Accountant. QuickBooks is a mature, globally used program with stock control, project reporting and connections to hundreds of apps — but no Cyprus edition. The international edition tracks VAT rather than filing it, and Cyprus is missing from its list of countries with prefilled tax rates. Volk Accountant produces VAT-4 and VIES from your own books, from €29 a month. QuickBooks is the better choice if you run companies outside Cyprus as well, need stock control, or want a program every accountant in the world already knows.

Does QuickBooks file the Cyprus VAT return?

No, and the provider says so itself. The feature page for the international edition is called “GST & VAT Tracking” — tracking, not filing. At filing time the program, by its own description, prepares a statement to assist you with completing your tax return. By contrast, the UK edition lists “Manage and submit VAT to HMRC” in every plan. So Intuit builds submission for localised editions — and there is none for Cyprus (checked 20 September 2026).

Does QuickBooks know the Cyprus VAT rates?

Not prefilled. The feature page states: “QuickBooks is prefilled with tax rates in the following countries”, followed by 22 countries from Argentina to Venezuela. Cyprus is not among them. Tax rates can be created in QuickBooks, but the five Cyprus rates, the treatment of reverse charge and the handling of intra-EU supplies then have to be set up and maintained by someone — usually your accountant. With Volk Accountant that is the starting state.

What does QuickBooks cost in Cyprus?

That is not on the international pricing page. The four plans are called Simple Start, Essentials, Plus and Advanced, and they differ in the number of users — one, three, five and twenty-five. The amounts themselves are loaded by location through an exchange-rate service and are not fixed in the page source. The trial runs 30 days. At Volk Accountant, €29, €49 and €79 are on the pricing page and the trial runs 14 days without a card.

What can QuickBooks do that Volk Accountant cannot?

Quite a lot. Stock control with purchase orders from the Plus plan, plus sales orders. Project profitability and class or location tracking. Up to twenty-five users on Advanced with custom roles, a custom report builder and data sync with Excel. On top of that, connections to hundreds of programs and the fact that practically every accountant in the world can work in it. Accountant access at QuickBooks is included in every plan, on top of the counted users.
