Volk Accountant and Xero compared
Xero has localised editions for the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and other countries, but none for Cyprus. A company here gets the Global edition, which the pricing page explicitly labels Global in US dollars. It costs 7 dollars on Lite, 29 on Starter, 50 on Standard and 75 on Premium. Two things weigh heavily: the cheaper plans cap invoices at five and twenty a month respectively, and multi-currency only arrives on the Premium plan at 75 dollars. On filing a tax return the Global edition says nothing, whereas the UK edition advertises submission to HMRC in every plan. Volk Accountant produces VAT-4 and VIES from your own books, with unlimited invoices from 29 euros.

Which one fits whom

You want to pay in euros and invoice without a ceiling
- Invoices and quotes are unlimited on every plan
- VAT-4 and VIES come from your books, from €29 a month
- Several currencies are included from €29, not only from $75
- Your accountant gets a portal laid out like Tax For All
You need extensive reporting
- You want cash flow forecasting, KPIs and industry benchmarking
- You work in several countries, not only in Cyprus
- You need a very large catalogue of connected programs
- You want thirty days to try it rather than fourteen
Everything that matters for Cyprus accounting
A dash means the provider publishes nothing on that point. For a global program it appears on almost every Cyprus-specific row.

On receipt recognition, payment links and bank reconciliation the two are level. The difference sits at the top and in the middle: the VAT return and the VIES statement on one side, invoice limits and multi-currency on the other.

What sets Volk Accountant and Xero apart?
A global program and a Cyprus one. Three differences carry the decision.
Twenty invoices against unlimited
Xero’s Global edition caps invoices at five on Lite and twenty on Starter; they become unlimited only from Standard at US$50. At Volk Accountant, invoices and quotes are unlimited on every plan, including Starter at €29.
Euros against US dollars
For Cyprus, Xero bills in US dollars — the region selector labels the relevant edition “Global (USD)”. Volk Accountant costs €29, €49 and €79 and is stated in euros. Xero supports several currencies only on the Premium plan at $75; with us that comes from €29.
Cyprus filings or none
Volk Accountant produces VAT-4 and VIES from your own books. Xero’s Global edition says nothing about filing a tax return, whereas its UK edition lists “Submit VAT returns to HMRC” on every plan. Xero builds filing only for countries with a dedicated edition.
Global edition means: no Cyprus edition
Xero builds tax filing country by country. What is left over gets the Global edition.
Xero has dedicated editions for the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and the United States, among others. In the UK edition, submission to HMRC appears on all four plans, along with readiness for Making Tax Digital.
There is no such edition for Cyprus. The pricing page labels the edition reachable from here explicitly as “Global (USD)”, and the word Cyprus does not appear on it. On filing a tax return it says nothing.
Where Xero does more than we do
A comparison page that finds nothing good in the competitor is advertising. These are documented advantages, checked 20 September 2026.
- Cash flow forecasting over thirty, sixty or a hundred and eighty days, depending on the plan.
- KPI and ratio analysis plus industry benchmarking, with customisable dashboards on Premium.
- Budgeting with smart suggestions and tailored financial health scorecards on Standard.
- A very low entry point: the Lite plan is US$7 a month if five invoices are enough.
- Employee expense and mileage claims available as an add-on.
- Thirty days of trial against our fourteen.
Xero and Volk Accountant: common questions
Which accounting software is better for Cyprus: Xero or Volk Accountant?
For a company based in Cyprus the fit argues for Volk Accountant. Xero is a mature program with a large feature set, but there is no Cyprus edition — you get the Global edition in US dollars, and it says nothing about filing a tax return. Volk Accountant produces VAT-4 and VIES from your own books, from €29 a month, with unlimited invoices on every plan. Xero is the better choice if you work beyond Cyprus, need extensive reporting, or sit in a country for which Xero builds a dedicated edition.
What does Xero cost in Cyprus?
The Global edition costs US$7 on Lite, US$29 on Starter, US$50 on Standard and US$75 on Premium, per month. The region selector on the pricing page labels the edition explicitly as “Global (USD)”. Billing is therefore in dollars, not euros — the euro figure depends on the exchange rate. Volk Accountant costs €29, €49 and €79 a month, stated in euros.
How many invoices can I issue in Xero?
On the Global edition, five on Lite and twenty on Starter, plus five bills on Starter. Invoices become unlimited only from the Standard plan at US$50. At Volk Accountant, invoices and quotes are unlimited on every plan, including Starter at €29.
Does Xero file the Cyprus VAT return?
The Global edition says nothing about it. By contrast, the UK edition lists “Submit VAT returns to HMRC” on all four plans, plus readiness for Making Tax Digital. So Xero builds filing for countries where it has a dedicated edition — Cyprus is not one of them. VIES does not appear on the Global page either (checked 20 September 2026).
From which plan does Xero support multiple currencies?
Only from the Premium plan at US$75 a month. Lite, Starter and Standard do not list multi-currency. At Volk Accountant, invoices in several currencies are included from the Starter plan at €29. So if you invoice internationally, the comparison is not $29 against €29 but $75 against €29.
What can Xero do that Volk Accountant cannot?
Xero brings extensive reporting: cash flow forecasting over thirty, sixty or a hundred and eighty days depending on the plan, KPI and ratio analysis, industry benchmarking and customisable dashboards. On top of that come budgeting with smart suggestions, employee expense and mileage claims as an add-on, and a very large catalogue of connected programs. The trial runs thirty days against our fourteen.
