The question that decides everything else
Accounting software for Cyprus is usually compared on price. Price is the worst first filter, though, because the providers cover different amounts of work. An invoicing tool at €0 and a bookkeeping system at €29 do not solve the same task.
The better first filter is this question: who produces the Cyprus filings in the end — you, the software, or a bookkeeper?
That gives four groups, and each has a different answer.

Which provider fits which case
Cyprus business owners who keep their own books and work with their accountant — including those invoicing abroad
Few invoices a month, but many contacts
Cyprus payroll and an app for your phone
Invoices only, without bookkeeping
Stock control and running it on your own server
Handing bookkeeping over, with Cyprus bank feeds
Companies beyond Cyprus as well
Formation, bookkeeper and software from one supplier
Cheapest entry, bookkeeper bookable on top
Reporting and cash flow forecasting
Volk Accountant comes first because this is our page. Everyone else is listed alphabetically — an order that placed us above the rest would be worthless, because it would prove nothing. The table scrolls sideways; the provider column stays in place.
Group 1: You produce the filings yourself
This is the most common case in Cyprus — and the most misunderstood. Most companies already have an accountant and are therefore not looking for a bookkeeping service but for a tool both sides can work in.
What that means is the ordinary working business: a company in Cyprus issuing invoices — to Cypriot customers, to customers elsewhere in Europe, and often to customers outside the EU. It includes the many business owners who moved to Cyprus while their clients stayed somewhere else. For that business the same things come round every month: invoices out, receipts in, bank reconciled, VAT-4 at the quarter end and VIES every month.
Four providers qualify here:
Volk Accountant, from €29. VAT-4 and VIES come out of your own books and are included in every plan. Invoices, quotes and receipt capture are unlimited — there is no invoice ceiling and no allowance that runs out mid-month. Receipts are read by OCR and can be scanned straight from your phone. Your accountant gets a portal of their own on every plan, laid out like Tax For All, and pays nothing for it. Invoices go out in several currencies, and from the Business plan at €49 the line items are translated automatically into the customer’s language. We sell software only and broker no bookkeeping.
Balabook, from €30 net. Every feature sits in every plan; usage is capped instead — 400 or 800 AI credits a month, expiring at month end. In exchange there is Cyprus payroll with IR7 and IR63, an app for iPhone and Android, and an MCP server for AI assistants.
Accountly, from €29. Caps invoices per month — 15 on Starter, 40 on Growth, 80 on Business. Offers OSS returns for EU private customers and unlimited contacts even on the cheapest plan. The provider describes the product as beta in its own FAQ.
Cybooks, from €29. The only provider with direct connections to Cyprus banks and with invoices in Greek. Which software plan contains the VAT return, however, Cybooks does not publish.
When you need something else within this group
Inside this group the exceptions can be named precisely. Another provider is the better choice if one of these applies to you:
- You employ people and need Cyprus payroll with IR7 and IR63 → Balabook
- You sell to private customers in other EU countries above the €10,000 threshold and need OSS → Accountly or Billino
- You need invoices in Greek today rather than announced → Cybooks
- You need structured e-invoices under EN 16931 because your customers sit in Germany, France or Italy → Billino
- You need an app for iPhone and Android → Balabook
If none of those applies, Volk Accountant covers the monthly routine in full — with no volume ceiling and no change of plan just because business picked up.
Group 2: You hand bookkeeping over
If you have no accountant, or do not want to keep one, you can get software and bookkeeper from one supplier. The price is then no longer a monthly figure below €50.
TidyBooks brokers a partner accountant from €2,000 net a year, graded by transaction volume up to €5,500. That covers quarterly VAT and monthly VIES including submission, the statutory audit, tax filings and payroll — with the software included. It is the cheapest full-service offer in the field.
Sumly supplies a certified bookkeeper of its own from €390 a month and also sells company formation, the Yellow Slip and tax residency. Note that Sumly states its software is only for limited companies registered in Cyprus.
Cybooks offers “All Inclusive” from €540 a month with bookkeepers of its own.
Balabook brokers a licensed Cyprus firm on its “Complete” plan from €399 a month — so it does not provide the service itself.
Group 3: You only issue invoices
If the bookkeeping runs entirely elsewhere and all you need is correct invoices, a full bookkeeping system is more tool than you need.
Billino is free up to €50,000 of annual revenue and €19 a month above that. It validates VAT numbers against VIES, applies reverse charge automatically, tracks the €10,000 threshold for EU distance selling and produces e-invoices as Factur-X, ZUGFeRD and Peppol. Receipt scanning and tax submission carry the note “Soon” on its own feature page.
Group 4: You need more than bookkeeping
BTMS is a Windows program with stock management, bills of materials and purchase and sales analysis, present in Cyprus since 2005. It runs on a local or a cloud server. Prices are not on the website.
QuickBooks brings stock control from the Plus plan, project reporting and up to 25 users — but does not cover the Cyprus filings.
Xero is strong on reporting: cash flow forecasting, KPI analysis and industry benchmarking. The Global edition relevant for Cyprus bills in US dollars and caps invoices at twenty a month on the $29 plan.
What none of the providers does
One widespread expectation is worth correcting: no provider files the VAT return automatically with the authority. In Cyprus, filing runs through Tax For All, and a person enters the figures there.
Balabook states it plainly in its own help centre: “the submission to the tax authority is not automated. Users are required to export the completed VAT form and manually submit it through the Taxisnet portal.”
The difference between providers lies before that step: whether the software produces the figures for the VAT-4 return and the VIES statement from your books — or whether someone has to assemble them outside it.
And none of them replaces the auditor: every Cyprus limited company needs audited or reviewed annual accounts. What software can do is hand the auditor books they can work from.
How we checked
Every figure on this page comes from the provider’s own public pages, retrieved between 18 and 20 September 2026. Where a provider publishes nothing on a point, the table shows a dash — not a cross. Not published is not the same as not available.
Each provider has a comparison page of its own with the full figures, the sources and the date checked. Each of those also states what the provider does better than we do:
- Volk Accountant vs. Accountly · vs. Balabook · vs. Billino
- vs. BTMS · vs. Cybooks · vs. QuickBooks
- vs. Sumly · vs. TidyBooks · vs. Xero
We are one of the nine providers ourselves. This page is therefore not a neutral authority, and we do not present it as one. What we do instead: source every figure, state the date it was checked, and say on every individual page when the other provider is the better choice.
