Volk Accountant vs Accountly

Same entry price, same trial length, similar feature list. The difference is in the limits a plan sets.

Volk Accountant and Accountly compared

Accountly and Volk Accountant both cost 29 euros a month to start and both give you 14 days to try them. The difference that decides most cases is volume: Accountly caps the number of invoices you may issue each month at 15 on Starter, 40 on Growth and 80 on Business, plus 30 to 100 receipt scans depending on the plan. Volk Accountant sets no such cap on any plan. So anyone issuing more than fifteen invoices a month moves up a plan at Accountly, while our price stays where it is. On the Cyprus obligations the two are comparable: the VAT return, VIES and reverse charge are documented by both. Accountly does multi-currency and OSS, which we publish nothing about, and discloses its data processing unusually fully.

Which one fits whom

The feature lists look alike at first glance. What differs is which work they cover — and from which plan.

A dash means the provider publishes nothing on this. That is not the same as “cannot do it”.Details on Accountly taken from the providers’ public pages, retrieved on 19 September 2026. Prices may have changed since — the provider’s own page always takes precedence.

Both produce the VIES statement and the VAT return, and both handle reverse charge. On the individual VAT rates Accountly publishes nothing — so whether the 3% rate can be entered there is not verifiable, and the table says “not published” rather than “cannot do it”.

If you would rather not weigh up just these two: the overview of all nine providers for Cyprus groups them by use case — with the same sources and check dates.

What sets Volk Accountant and Accountly apart?

Both cover the Cyprus obligations. Three differences carry the decision.

Volume

No ceiling on invoices or receipts

Accountly caps invoices per month — 15 on Starter, 40 on Growth, 80 on Business — and receipt scans the same way: 30, 50 or 100. At Volk Accountant, invoices, quotes and receipt capture are unlimited on every plan.

Language

Invoices in your customer’s language

Volk Accountant sends every invoice in the language your customer reads and translates the line items automatically. Accountly publishes nothing about the output language of invoices.

From €49

API access without an Enterprise plan

Volk Accountant includes API access and sending from your own mail server in the Business plan at €49. At Accountly, API access sits on the Enterprise plan, which is priced on request.

Volk Accountant is the better choice if you want a predictable bill: invoices and receipts without a ceiling, invoices in your customer’s language, and API access from €49. Accountly does offer OSS returns for EU private customers and gives unlimited contacts on the cheapest plan — there we stop at 15.

Plans: same price, different ceiling

Both cards show the same list. The entry price is identical — what it allows is not.

At the same price the two plans differ clearly in two places, and each argues for a different side: we set no volume ceiling, while Accountly already gives you unlimited contacts here — with us Starter stops at 15 clients and goes unlimited in Business at €49.

One step up: €49 against €49

The second plan meets at the same price too. Our Business is €49 and Accountly’s Growth is €49.

At Accountly the ceilings move up with the plan, they do not disappear: 40 invoices instead of 15, 50 receipt scans instead of 30, 3 bank connections instead of one, plus 5 GB of storage. On our side this plan removes the client limit, makes bank accounts unlimited, translates invoice line items automatically — and adds API access and sending from your own mail server. At Accountly, API access sits on the Enterprise plan, which is priced on request.

One point argues for Accountly here: team size, five members for €49 against our three — unlimited only on Pro at €79. On appearance the two are level: your own logo and invoice templates are available on both sides, at Accountly from Growth, with us at no extra cost.

Where Accountly does more than we do

A comparison page that finds nothing good in the competitor is advertising. These are documented advantages, checked 19 September 2026.

  • OSS and MOSS returns. Relevant if you sell to private customers in other EU countries: above €10,000 a year EU-wide you charge the customer’s country rate, and OSS collects that into a single quarterly return. We do not offer this.
  • Running it on your own infrastructure on the Enterprise plan.
  • Unlimited contacts on every plan. With us Starter allows up to 15 clients and goes unlimited from the Business plan.

Four points that used to sit here no longer do: multi-currency is in every one of our plans, so are your own logo and invoice templates, and API access and sending from your own mail server come with our Business plan at €49 — at Accountly, API access sits on the Enterprise plan, which is priced on request.

Questions

Accountly and Volk Accountant: common questions

Which accounting software is better for Cyprus: Accountly or Volk Accountant?

Both cover the Cyprus obligations – the VAT return, VIES and reverse charge are documented by each. The difference is how much work a plan allows and what comes after that. Volk Accountant sets no volume ceiling: invoices and quotes are unlimited on every plan and receipt capture carries no monthly allowance. At Accountly it is 15, 40 or 80 invoices a month depending on the plan. Two further things sit with us that Accountly publishes nothing about: invoices in your customer’s language with line items translated automatically, and an accountant portal laid out like Tax For All. Accountly is the better choice if you issue few invoices but manage many contacts, work in several currencies or file OSS returns – none of which we can do. One thing to note: Accountly describes the product as beta in its own FAQ.

What does Accountly cost compared with Volk Accountant?

Both start at €29 a month and both give you 14 days to try them. Accountly has three software plans: Starter at €29, Growth at €49 and Business at €89, plus an Enterprise plan priced on request. Paid yearly Accountly takes 17% off; we give two months. The headline price decides little here, because the plans allow different amounts of work: Accountly caps invoices per month and we do not.

How many invoices can I issue in Accountly?

15 a month on the Starter plan at €29, 40 on Growth at €49 and 80 on Business at €89. It becomes unlimited only on the Enterprise plan, which is priced on request. There are limits on receipt scans too, which Accountly calls Smart-Uploads: 30, 50 or 100 a month. At Volk Accountant invoices and quotes are unlimited on every plan, including Starter at €29, and OCR receipt capture carries no monthly allowance.

Do both cover Cyprus VAT?

Yes, both document the VAT return, the VIES statement and reverse charge. At Volk Accountant, VAT-4 and VIES have been part of the Starter plan at €29 since September 2026. Accountly names VIES and OSS reporting in every plan but does not assign the VAT return to a particular plan. On the individual VAT rates Accountly publishes nothing: 19% appears only in a product screenshot and there is no list of the Cyprus rates. Whether the 3% rate can be handled there is therefore not verifiable (checked 19 September 2026).

Where is data stored with Accountly?

In Germany. Accountly names Hetzner Online GmbH as the operator of its servers and database, in ISO 27001 certified data centres. Its privacy policy lists ten sub-processors with role, country and safeguard, among them Mistral AI in France for receipt recognition, Revolut in Lithuania for bank connections and Stripe in Ireland and the USA for billing. That is an unusually complete disclosure. Volk Accountant names Frankfurt as its server location.

What can Accountly do that Volk Accountant cannot?

Two things we do not cover. First, OSS and MOSS returns: anyone selling to private customers in other EU countries has to charge the customer's country rate above €10,000 a year EU-wide, and OSS collects that into one quarterly return. Second, running it on your own infrastructure on the Enterprise plan. On contacts it is split: Accountly gives an unlimited number on every plan, while our Starter allows up to 15 clients and goes unlimited from Business.

Is Accountly finished?

Accountly describes the product as beta in its own FAQ: “We’re in beta, and early users help us refine the edge cases” (checked 19 September 2026). That is not a judgement but a statement by the provider, and it matters when choosing an accounting system — you do not want to migrate one twice. The legal groundwork, by contrast, is complete: a legal notice with registration number HE 485943, a privacy policy at version 3.1 and terms at version 3.0.
